Technical FAQ
The main difference is thickness. HMS 1 requires a minimum of 1/4 inch (6 mm), while HMS 2 allows for lighter materials starting at 1/8 inch (3 mm). HMS 2 may also include galvanized steel, whereas HMS 1 is typically black steel.
To ensure efficient charging for electric arc furnaces (EAF), the scrap is cut to standard dimensions not exceeding 60 x 24 inches and is handled in bulk vessel loads to maintain cost-efficiency.
